Overview
Settings groups
Settings is divided into Library, Playback, Appearance, Sync, Services & Integrations, Security and About. You can search for a setting by name at the top of settings to jump straight to it.
Platform differences:
- On a Mac there is a separate Apple Music settings page; on iPhone and iPad, Apple Music authorization is in Manage Sources.
- The same setting can be on different pages on each platform: for example, on a Mac the theme color, app icon, home sections and backup and restore are all on the Appearance page.
- The Intelligence entry only appears in regions where the service is offered.
Appearance and theme color
- Appearance: switch between dark and light appearance.
- Theme Color › Color Source: From Cover Art (The accent follows the playing song's artwork.) or Fixed Color (Always use the color you pick below.).
- App Icon: change the Home Screen icon.
- Minimal Mode (iPhone, iPad): Hides the bottom navigation bar: switch between Home, Music, Radio and Audio at the top, with the player docked at the bottom.
Player
iPhone and iPad: in Settings › Player Style & Buttons you can use Quick Looks, or adjust Player Background, Artwork Style, Progress Bar, Volume Slider and Control Color separately, as well as the player buttons and the items in More Menu.
Other common options: Lyrics Under Artwork, Tap Artwork for Lyrics, Dynamic Artwork, Keep Screen Awake in Player, Full-screen effects.
Home and library
- Home: adjust the Visible sections and their order, or use Restore default layout.
- Library Display: adjust library categories, the default flat view, the artist page style and more.
Backup and restore
iPhone and iPad: Library Display › Backup & Restore; Mac: Appearance › Backup & Restore.
- Export Ratings, Likes & Playlists: A backup records each song's rating, comment and Liked Songs status by title, artist, album and duration, along with the songs and order of your own playlists. Import it after rebuilding your library, switching devices or re-adding a source to get them back. Ratings already on this device are never silently replaced.
- Restore from Backup: before restoring, Primuse previews how many ratings, Liked Songs entries and playlists will be added. If the device already has a different rating, choose Restore, Keep This Device's Ratings or Restore, Use the Backup's Ratings.
- Songs in the backup that can't be found yet are remembered; These songs changed identity and haven't shown up in your library again yet. When a scan finds the same song, its rating and like are added back automatically.
A backup contains only these marks and playlists, not audio files, music source accounts or settings.
