Overview
When you need this
If Primuse crashes, stops responding, misses songs in a scan, can't connect to a music source or stops playing, the author usually needs a record of the moment it went wrong. Diagnostics stay on your device and are never sent automatically; they leave the device only when you send them yourself.
Before you start
- Check your app version: Settings → About shows the Version and Build number. Include them in your report.
- Uploading needs an internet connection. Each device can upload up to 5 times a day, and each package can be up to 8 MB.
Step 1: Turn on Diagnostic Mode (recommended)
- Open Settings → About → “Diagnostic Reports”.
- Mac: Settings → About → “Diagnostic Logs…”, then click “Diagnostic Reports” in the window that opens.
- Apple TV: open “Diagnostic Reports” in Settings.
- Turn on “Record Detailed Logs”. For the next 24 hours the app records extra troubleshooting details, then turns this off by itself.
- Make the problem happen again (for example rescan, replay the song, or reconnect the source) and note the approximate time.
Anything that happened before you turned on Diagnostic Mode is only in the basic log and may lack detail, so it is best to reproduce the problem once with it on.
Step 2: Upload to the author
- On the “Diagnostic Reports” screen, tap “Send to the author” in the toolbar.
- Under “Attachments (optional)”, choose what to include: “Diagnostic Reports” (crash and hang reports, runtime metrics) and “Logs”.
- Optionally add screenshots under “Images (optional)” (up to 6, scaled down automatically) and describe under “Requests or suggestions” what you did, what you expected, what actually happened and roughly when.
- Tap “Upload to the Author” at the bottom. You will see “Packaging…”, “Uploading …%” and “Confirming…”.
- When “Uploaded to the author” appears, tap “Copy Code” and mention the code on GitHub or in your email.
Expected result: a report code is shown. After a successful upload, the uploaded reports and logs are removed from the device.
Apple TV has no system crash reports, so only the log and your message are uploaded; after the code appears you can use “Upload Another” to send another.
If uploading isn't possible: use email or share
- Below the upload button are “Send by Email Instead” or “Share Instead”. The email attaches the reports or logs you selected, and you review it before sending.
- If the upload service is unavailable, the upload button is not shown; the toolbar button becomes “Open Mail” or “Share” and the author's email address is displayed.
- Versions before 1.12.2 have no upload; use “Send to the author” to send by email or share.
Share a single report
Tap any report on the “Diagnostic Reports” screen to share just that one. On a Mac, “Export Logs” shows the log file in Finder.
What the options mean
| Option | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Crash and Hang Reports | Reports the system leaves after the app crashes or hangs for a long time; they usually appear only after you open the app again |
| Runtime Metrics | Periodic runtime data from the system, such as peak memory and exit reasons |
| Logs | The app's own record of recent playback, scanning and syncing; uploads and shares include only the most recent part |
| Record Detailed Logs | Records more detail for 24 hours, then turns off automatically |
| Clear Logs | Deletes the logs on this device; this can't be undone |
Privacy
Logs contain song titles, file paths, and music source addresses and accounts folded into short tags; passwords, tokens and other credentials are removed before anything is written. Uploads are used only for troubleshooting and are deleted from the author's server after 30 days (possibly earlier if the server runs short of space). Before sending you can untick “Logs” or leave out screenshots.
Limits
- Each upload is at most 8 MB after packaging; each device has 5 uploads a day, and unfinished attempts also count.
- Reports and logs on the device are kept for about 7 days.
- Apple TV has no crash and hang reports; Apple Watch has no diagnostics screen, so report from the paired iPhone.
