Check availability first
Settings › Services & Integrations › Intelligence. If you see "Intelligence features unavailable": Remote and generative intelligence features are not offered for this App Store region. Without smart features, local search, playback and the library work as usual.
Choose who handles requests
- Built-in AI experience: turn on Use built-in AI experience. Built-in AI is a free trial channel from Primuse, meant to show what the intelligence features can do rather than something to rely on. Heavy usage, server bandwidth, or upstream rate limits can make it slow or temporarily unavailable, and if free capacity can’t be found later, it may be retired or charged for separately. We recommend adding your own API key under Your AI Services and then turning off built-in AI. Every feature works the same, and it’s usually faster and more reliable. You can tap Test Built-in Service: The test sends only a fixed test phrase. It does not read searches, lyrics, your library, or listening history, and it does not change any switches.
- Your AI Services: Add Service, choose a Provider preset or enter the Base URL and API key, then Fetch Models, choose a Generation model, and finally Test connection. For a service on your local network, you can turn on Allow HTTP for local network servers.
- Default and Handled by: choose a service for each feature; Use another service when one fails switches to another service automatically when one fails.
Data permissions
Smart features send data only after you allow it:
- Allow sending search content, lyrics awaiting translation, tags to tidy or your library's album, artist and track names and genres to AI services
- Allow sending minimized listening preferences and candidate details (used for recommendations)

Released and in testing
- Released (1.12.3 build 120 and earlier): the features in "Features at a glance" above and the settings on this page all have matching interface text in the v1.12.3 tag source.
- In testing (1.12.3 build 121): using Apple's on-device models (Apple Intelligence), simulated word-by-word lyrics and automatic discovery of word-by-word lyrics, and resuming interrupted AI chapter generation. As of November 1, 2026, build 121 is available for testing through TestFlight only on iPhone, iPad and Apple TV; the Mac version is still waiting for beta review, and it hasn't been submitted for App Store review. The App Store version (1.12.2 as of November 3, 2026) doesn't include these features. This article doesn't explain how to use them yet; that will be added after an official release.
