Two Apple Music sources
| Source | Description | Platforms |
|---|---|---|
| Apple Music | Sync your Apple Music library, in the Streaming category | iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV |
| Apple Music Library | Local Apple Music / iTunes, in the Local category | Mac only |
Songs in your Apple Music library appear alongside the rest of your music in Primuse.
Requirements
- The device is signed in to an Apple Account. Playing subscription songs needs an active Apple Music subscription: An active Apple Music subscription is required to play this track in Primuse. Subscribe in the Apple Music app and try again.
- The system asks for permission the first time you connect. The permission text reads: Primuse needs access to your Apple Music / iTunes library to import its local tracks as a playback source.
- If your account or region isn't supported, you see: Apple Music streaming isn't available for this account or region.
Add Apple Music
- Open Settings › Manage Sources (in the Library group).
- Tap + and choose Apple Music under Streaming. It is also offered during onboarding: Optionally connect Apple Music and browse it alongside your library.
- On the Apple Music source, tap Connect Apple Music and allow access in the system prompt.
- Tap Sync Apple Music library. While syncing, Primuse shows "Syncing Apple Music library…".
Expected result: songs and playlists from your library appear in Primuse; the system playlist is named "Apple Music Library". Later you can tap Sync again to sync again.
On Mac you can also connect, sync or tap Open System Settings in Settings › Apple Music. iPhone and iPad have no separate Apple Music settings page; use the source list instead.
Adding songs from the Apple Music catalog
- Search also shows results from the Apple Music catalog. Before you authorize, it shows: Apple Music isn't connected yet. Connect it on the Apple Music source in Manage Sources to enable catalog search.
- On a catalog song you can choose Add to Apple Music Library. When it works you see "Added to your Apple Music library". If you see "Added to Apple Music, but sync hasn't brought it in yet. Try again in a moment.", check again a little later.
- If library sync isn't turned on: Apple Music library sync is off, so this song can't join your Primuse library.
- Limitation on Mac: On Mac, catalog songs can't be added to your library from here. Open the song in Apple Music and add it to your library; once it syncs you can like it and add it to playlists.
- When the song isn't in your region's catalog: No Apple Music results (this storefront may not carry this title).
What works and what doesn't
- Playback is handled by the system: Apple Music plays through the system player. Primuse features like scraping, tag editing and EQ don't apply.
- Lyrics: Apple Music's official synced lyrics aren't exposed to third-party apps. Open Apple Music to view them, or use Scrape in the song menu to match external lyrics. When scraping Apple Music songs: Apple Music metadata and official artwork stay unchanged; scraping only saves the external lyrics you confirm.
- Apple Music songs don't have Primuse's offline download action; download them in the system Music app for offline listening.
- Downloaded or protected Apple Music files can't be played as ordinary local audio: This song is protected and cannot be played as a local audio file. Play it from a synced Apple Music playlist or open it in Music.
Apple TV
When you search on Apple TV you can see results from From Apple Music. First choose Allow Apple Music: Authorize to search and play Apple Music tracks here. If you see Allow Apple Music access for Primuse in Settings on this Apple TV, then try again., allow access in Apple TV Settings as prompted.
Common problems
| Symptom | What to do |
|---|---|
| Apple Music Access Required | Primuse needs Apple Music access to sync your library. Grant access in System Settings, then add the source again. |
| Permission denied | Apple Music access was denied. Re-enable it in System Settings → Privacy → Media & Apple Music. |
| Sync timed out | Apple Music sync timed out. Check Music permissions or try again later. |
| Mac says the cloud library isn't available | Make sure the Music app on your Mac uses the same Apple Account and subscription as your iPhone, and that Sync Library is on. Primuse keeps the local songs it already synced. |
| Playback rights can't be confirmed right now | Apple Music playback access could not be verified. Check your connection and try again. |
| A song from the Mac's local library can't be found | The local song file was not found. Check its location in Music, then rescan this source. |
