How media servers differ from file-based sources
A media server organizes its own library. After you sign in, Primuse syncs the whole library directly, without choosing folders. Cloud drives only need you to sign in when prompted; media servers like Navidrome and Jellyfin sync the whole library after sign-in, with no folders to pick.
If the server is still scanning, Primuse shows "Server is scanning its library; will continue when it finishes...".
Where to start
Settings › Manage Sources (in the Library group) › +, then choose a type under Media Server. After saving: Save first, then tap the source to connect and scan the complete server catalogue
How each server signs in
| Server | Sign-in | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Jellyfin, Emby | Account and password, or set Auth Method to API Key | Behind a reverse proxy, fill in Server URL subpath (optional, e.g. /jellyfin) |
| Plex | Sign In with Plex, or enter the address manually, set Auth Method to API Key and paste a token | Sign in to pick one of your own servers or a server a friend has shared with you, without typing an address or token. |
| Subsonic / OpenSubsonic, Navidrome, Airsonic, gonic | Server account and password | Any server compatible with the Subsonic API can use "Subsonic" |
| Audiobookshelf | Account and password, or API key | Audiobook & podcast server · Native API. Sign in with a server account, or create an API key under Settings › API Keys on the server and choose API Key above. |
| Synology Audio Station | DSM account and password | Supports two-step verification; This account can't use Audio Station. In DSM, open Control Panel › Application Privileges and allow Audio Station for this account. |
| Feiniu Music | Under Connection Method, choose an address or FN Connect | Enter the FN ID. Primuse prefers a direct route and falls back to the FN Connect relay. Sign-in still uses the local NAS account. Use an account that can sign in to Feiniu Music and has library access. |
| Daoliyu, Songloft, Ting Reader | Server address and account | Daoliyu: Self-hosted music server · Native API; Ting Reader: Self-hosted audiobook server · Native API |
Signing in with a Plex account
- Tap Sign In with Plex and sign in on the page that opens. Primuse shows "Sign in to Plex and allow Primuse on the page that opened…".
- After you sign in, your servers are listed with these labels: "My server", "Shared in Plex Home", "Offline", "Plex Relay only", "No usable address".
- Choose a server and save. This source is linked to your Plex account. If the server's address changes, Primuse updates it automatically.
Note: Connections through Plex Relay have limited bandwidth, so high-bitrate lossless music may not play smoothly.
When signing in to Plex on Apple TV: Scan the QR code with your phone, or open plex.tv/link in any browser and enter the code below.
Choosing which libraries to sync
After adding the source, choose Edit Source (Jellyfin, Emby, Plex, Navidrome, Audiobookshelf, Ting Reader) and, under Libraries, set each library to Music, Audiobooks or Don't Sync. Choose what each library on the server holds. Audiobook libraries go to the shelf and use the book player; libraries you don't sync are left out of the next scan.
Limitations
- The server decides which songs exist: after reorganizing on the server, return to Primuse and run Scan on that source.
- High-bitrate lossless files may stutter over a Plex relay or a slow remote connection. You can lower the streaming quality in playback settings or cache songs first (see the offline article).
- The Feiniu Music access code is optional: Enter it only when FN Connect access-code protection is enabled. It is stored securely in Keychain.
Common problems
- Plex shows "No servers are available to this Plex account.": switch to an account that owns or has been shared a server (Use Another Account).
- "Couldn't reach plex.tv. Check your network and try again.": check that the device can reach the internet, then tap Try Again.
- Audio Station reports "Audio Station isn't installed or isn't running on this NAS.": install or start Audio Station in the DSM Package Center.
