Where lyrics come from
Primuse looks, in order, for lyrics embedded in the audio file, lyrics files in the same folder, lyrics from your media server, and the online lyrics sources you've enabled (see Fill in song details, artwork and lyrics: scraping and tag tidying). Only time-synced lyrics scroll with playback; plain-text lyrics are shown statically.
Open lyrics from the player. Settings: Settings › Lyrics Settings.

Lyrics translation
Turn on Enable Translation, then choose Translate to and Translation Method:
| Method | Description |
|---|---|
| System Translation | Uses Apple's Translation framework. A language pack may be downloaded the first time. |
| Intelligent Translation (System Fallback) | Uses the current intelligent service first, then automatically switches to system translation if unavailable. They never run together. Requires allowing lyrics to be sent for translation in Intelligence |
| Baidu Translate | Translates with the APP ID and secret key you got from the Baidu Translate Open Platform. If they're missing, a request fails, or Baidu can't translate into this language, system translation is used instead. |
- Show Built-in Translations: Translations that come with the lyrics file, such as the translated line sharing a timestamp in bilingual lyrics. When off, only the original lyrics show, with romanization and pinyin kept; with Lyrics Translation on, System or Intelligent Translation translates the whole song instead.
- Don't Translate: choose languages you can read and don't need translated.
- Translated lines are cached locally for instant retrieval next time. You can clear it in Translation Cache.
Romanization
Show Romanization: Applies both to romanization that comes with the lyrics and to romanization generated on this device. With “Romanization Only”, lines that have romanization show only the romanization; it has no word timing, so those lines are highlighted line by line. After turning on Generate Romanization Automatically, choose Languages to Romanize and Generation Method.
Lyric transcription (creating lyrics for songs without them)
Lyrics Settings › Song Transcription:
- Turn on Allow Song Transcription and Allow Audio Uploads. Audio is uploaded only after you explicitly start transcription. The editable result is not saved until you confirm it.
- Choose a Service:
- Built-in AI: Turn on the built-in AI in Intelligence settings to use it for song transcription. The number of songs you can transcribe per day depends on your plan.
- My Google API Key: enter your Google API Key, tap Load Available Transcription Models, then choose a Transcription Model. Audio transcription uses Google’s official API and is configured independently from search, recommendations, and text translation.
- When the status shows "Ready", you can start transcription on a song that has no lyrics.
Karaoke
Open Karaoke from the player's More menu or a control button. You can change the buttons and the contents of the More menu in Settings › Player Style & Buttons.
- Vocals: lowers the original vocals.
- Key: Raise Key / Lower Key / Original.
- I Sing: for duets, choose All, Lead or Duet.
- Mic, Monitor, Record: Primuse uses the microphone in karaoke mode to score your singing, let you hear yourself in headphones, and record your performance on this device. When you're done, tap Score to see your Score.
When vocals can't be lowered:
- Vocals can’t be reduced for Apple Music songs.
- Vocals can’t be reduced while casting to another device.
- High-fidelity output skips effects processing, so vocals can’t be reduced.
- If the microphone can't be used: Microphone access is off. You can turn it on in Settings.
