iPhone and iPad
- Settings are grouped into Library, Playback, Appearance, Sync, Services & Integrations, Security and About; you can search settings at the top.
- On iPhone there is no separate Apple Music settings page. Authorize and sync from the Apple Music row in your source list.
- Services & Integrations contains Apple TV Relay and DLNA Receiver: Other devices on the same Wi-Fi (VLC, Synology Audio Station, Plex, Hi-Fi Cast, etc.) will see Primuse as a media renderer and can push audio for playback.
Mac
- Add and manage music sources in the Sources section of the sidebar.
- The settings window lists pages such as playback, equalizer, effects, Keyboard Shortcuts, appearance, scraping, Artist Names, Lyrics Settings, Apple Music, Scrobble, Intelligence, widgets, iCloud, recently deleted, trusted domains, Storage and about.
- The menu includes Show desktop lyrics.
Apple TV
- On your iPhone, open Settings and, in the Services & Integrations group, tap Send to Apple TV now. Sign in to the same iCloud account on your Apple TV to see this library and its sources, passwords included. The Apple TV reaches NAS drives, media servers and cloud drives on its own; only music stored on this phone and NFSv4 sources need the relay.
- Sources on the TV carry labels:
- "Needs iPhone Relay": for example, local music stored on the iPhone; the iPhone has to forward it.
- "No Credentials": the TV doesn't have this source's password or token yet.
- "Not on TV": this type can't play on the TV (for example, the Mac's local Apple Music / iTunes library).
- When a relay is needed, open Apple TV Relay on your iPhone and turn on Let Apple TV play via this device. Keep Primuse open in the foreground and both devices on the same Wi-Fi. Music stored on this phone also has to be sent with “Transfer Library from iPhone” on the Apple TV.
According to the source code, the TV reads SMB, NFS (v3), FTP, SFTP and similar sources directly; NFSv4 and files stored on the iPhone go through the relay; Apple Music plays through the system player.
Apple Watch
- Control iPhone: control what's playing on your iPhone from the watch and view Up Next. If it shows "Make sure your iPhone is unlocked with Primuse open", follow the prompt.
- On Apple Watch: Send music from the iPhone transfer page to listen offline. In Device transfer on your iPhone, choose the watch as the destination (Save on your paired watch for offline playback). If no watch is paired, you see "Pair an Apple Watch and install Primuse on it".
- Turn the Digital Crown to adjust Apple Watch audio volume.
CarPlay
- Open Primuse on the car's screen to browse tabs such as Recent, Songs, Albums, Artists, Playlists and Search (which ones appear depends on the layout).
- On your iPhone, in Settings › CarPlay (in the Playback group), you can choose Layout Presets (Artwork Browsing, Focused Playback, Custom), Content Layout and Home Sections.
- With an empty library it shows "Library is Empty": Add a music source on your iPhone to start.
