Two ways to build the library
Option 1: Transfer Library from iPhone
- The sources page on Apple TV shows a QR code.
- Scan it with iPhone to securely send the library, sources and required credentials to this Apple TV over the local network.
- If the library is very large, only the sources are transferred and Apple TV scans them to build its library; you can follow progress on the sources page.
You can also use Send to Apple TV now in Settings → Services & Integrations → Apple TV on iPhone: an Apple TV signed in to the same iCloud account then sees the library and sources without re-entering passwords.
Option 2: Add directly on Apple TV Apple TV can build a library directly from SMB, NAS, WebDAV, Jellyfin / Emby / Plex and cloud drives; other types must be added and scanned on iPhone or Mac first. Cloud drive sign-in is done by scanning a code with your phone; see Connect a cloud drive. Passwords entered on Apple TV are stored only on that Apple TV.
Using the remote
- Touch surface: swipe up / down / left / right to move focus, press to select.
- Press Menu (Back) to go back one level.
- Search: select the search field to bring up the keyboard; voice dictation is supported. When a field is focused, a paired iPhone offers keyboard input, which is much faster than the remote.
Things you can only do on iPhone or Mac
- Diagnostic reports and log upload (Apple TV has no diagnostics entry).
- Generating AI subtitles: turn on Save Next to the Video on your phone or Mac before generating, and Apple TV finds them automatically when playing.
- Videos stored on your phone: turn on Let Apple TV play via this device (Apple TV relay) on iPhone, keep Viozi in the foreground and keep both devices on the same Wi-Fi.
Common problems
- "Can't reach the server": check the address and port, and that the Apple TV is on the same network as the server.
- "This source needs iPhone relay": keep Viozi open on your phone, on the same local network as the Apple TV.
- Transfer by QR code failed: scan the latest code on Apple TV again, and check Local Network permission, Wi-Fi client isolation and VPN.
